Skeletons in N dimensions using shape primitives

چکیده

This paper describes the generation of shape primitive detecting masks and their application in measurements on shapes as well as in conditions for topology preservation as used in skeletonization. The formalism is expanded from twoto four-dimensional images and elaborates on the extension of 3D skeletonization to 4D skeletonization. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Skeletal Representations and Applications

When representing a solid object there are alternatives to the use of traditional explicit (surface meshes) or implicit (zero crossing of implicit functions) methods. Skeletal representations encode shape information in a mixed fashion: they are composed of a set of explicit primitives, yet they are able to efficiently encode the shape’s volume as well as its topology. I will discuss, in two di...

Order–independent Sequential Thinning in Arbitrary Dimensions

Skeletons are region based shape descriptors that play important role in shape representation. This paper introduces a novel sequential thinning approach for n-dimensional binary objects (n = 1, 2, 3, . . .). Its main strength lies in its order–independency, i.e., it can produce the same skeletons for any visiting orders of border points. Furthermore, this is the first scheme in this field that...

The Generation of N Dimensional Shape Primitives

This paper describes a method to accelerate the generation of shape primitives for N-dimensional images N X . These shape primitives can be used in conditions for topology preserving erosion or skeletonization in Ndimensional images. The method is based on the possibility to describe primitives for intrinsic dimensions 1 N N = − % by quadratic equations of the form ( ) 1 2

Warp-based helical implicit primitives

Implicit modeling with skeleton-based primitives has been limited up to now to planar skeletons elements, since no closed-form solution was found for convolution along more complex curves. We show that warping techniques can be adapted to efficiently generate convolution-like implicit primitives of varying radius along helices, a useful 3D skeleton found in a number of natural shapes. Depending...

Discrete topology on N-dimensional square tessellated grids

Topology preservation and detection is a well known concept in the processing of 2and 3-dimensional binary images. These images can be considered as sets that are mapped on square tessellated (hyper cubic) grids. This paper describes how the formalisms derived for 2D and 3D images can be expanded to N-dimensional images, i.e. binary point sets that are aligned on an N-dimensional square tessell...
